I bet every single band member enjoyed the trip and the band exchange to Malaysia :)

I hope that everyone stays in contact with each other and have learnt something valuable from the band members of SMSS!

Please get a lot of rest recover from your exhaustion.

It was sad that not the whole band could attend this trip ): but there will be others in the near future! so, MUST PRACTICE HARD AND IMPROVE!

Please do not slacken because its the holidays! We have big events coming up as we come near to the end of the year. Performance for Okto (which the teachers and Mr Lim will only be selecting the best 25!) and Orientation! RECRUIT MORE SEEDS FOR OUR SWO FAMILY TREE.

Well, it could have been much better if we practised more but we can only learn from this performance because it's already the past.

After 6 years of consecutive silvers... Despite Mr Lim DOUBLE CONFIRMING our silver after our performance... We've brought back glory to our school by achieving a GOLD! Well done, Shuqun Wind Orchestra!!!!

We had our fun, our little party and celebration, and we can even anticipate our overseas trip in the months ahead, but! Do not be too proud and complacent of our Gold award. Have what it takes to maintain and uphold it. As you know, the seniors are stepping down in preparation for their national examinations. You must not let the absence of your seniors to dishearten you because of "the lack of good players". GO OUT THERE, MAKE A NAME FOR YOURSELVES AND EVEN STRIVE YOURSELF TO BE EVEN BETTER THAN THEM! And who knows, by our 2013 SYF, we will have what it takes to achieve our first Gold With Honours.

Its been 3 long months of long band practices guys.

Will the 3 months worth of tears, sweat, sacrifices and sheer hard work be displayed on Monday?

Can we bring glory back to the school and get our Gold?

Are you guys happy enough settling down for a safe Silver or even a bronze?

Are you taking this competition seriously?

I bet more than half of the band doesn't realise how close and fast SYF is approaching. 4th of April guys. Just 22 days left to SYF! Would you rather PLAY now than to PAY later? Or would you PAY now and REALLLY PLAY later? If we can't even sound decent for Singapore Flyer, what makes you think we can play Festival Variations? No point boasting about how Shuqun is going to play a Grade 6 piece when in reality we sound like a mediocre band.

Its the last lap to SYF guys! 22 days, 4th of April, 4th band. I can see the vast improvements compared to January. Lets bring home back a GOLD and I assure you, we'll go to places beyond Singapore. ALWAYS practice with a metronome and a tuner. PRACTICE the parts you really can't play instead of playing the ones you know. STOP slacking. (I have to kick that habit too) And ending this off with our school motto: DARE TO SOAR TO GREATER HEIGHTS!

As you guys obviously know, our practices have intensified a lot in preparations of the incoming Singapore Youth Festival. As the exchanges and competition date draws nearer and nearer, please take good care of yourself as the pressure will surely be heavier. The fatigue will hinder our progression but nonetheless, lets all be ready. If we really put in enough effort together as a band, our hard work will surely pay off. It will surely, surely pay off.

There will be an exchange on 12th February which is 13 days from now. Minus the CNY week, it'll be a week left for band practices. Are you guys ready? Lets all give it our best shot!

Stop slacking already and start bucking up! 25th is our performance day (At Supreme Court) and we are not even halfway done with any of the songs.

You only have LESS THAN A WEEK left!

And I'm surprised that some people haven't brought back their instruments home to practice this week.

Sec 1s, your time as the babies of the band will end soon. You guys are even gonna be seniors in less than 2 months. Stop expecting your seniors to cover up your missing parts or skip band practices whenever you like because your seniors will eventually be responsible for your absence. (Especially flute section.)

Please be responsible for yourself too!

Anyway, there are a couple of concerts coming up soon.

21st November: Singapore Symphony Orchestra featuring Hidehiro Fujita on Tuba.

9th December: Regent's Opus IV. Tickets at $12. Compulsory. If needed, consent form will be issued. Please support your fellow bands.

ITS OFFICIALLY THE END OF THE EXAMINATIONS!!!!!!!!

The performance over at Jurong Primary is very successful considering that we have only 1 day to memorise Hawaii-Five-O and Sock Hop Tonight AND to finalise our steps. Amazing job, SWO! Anticipate more performances lined up for us! So in the meanwhile, practice your etudes and memorise Whistle While You Work from "the band" part. As the weeks progresses, we will eventually memorise the whole song.

And band practice resumes per normal every Saturday , Wednesday and Friday! I think the teachers might print out the schedule for us soon so wait for it!

Anyway, like what Mr Lim said, band is not definitely NOT THE REASON to why you should be failing your exams. After all, we were all given nearly a month of study break away from band practice to prepare ourselves for the examinations. So its probably your own downfall for not studying hard enough. If your parents still insist on you quitting band because of your results, and you DO actually care about your keeping your position in band, make sure you make your parents speak to the teachers before doing anything rash. Band is a mandatory CCA. If you choose to walk out of band in the end, your CCA points will be all gone.

ONE MORE WEEK (7 DAYS!!!!!) TILL YOUR BIG DAY - THE JUNIOR BAND CONCERT!

I know there are many enrichment classes and YOG events you guys will have to participate in, but you shouldn't let your priority for band be the last of all the list.
How ready are you guys anyway? What about the attendance? What about the ticket sales? Have you guys manage to reach the target? I'm not so sure.
So lets make full use of the last few band practices to brush up whatever you can and promote the concert to your family and friends. Lets jam the concert hall up with our performances! Seniors, please assist your juniors besides working on your upcoming band tests.

I hope you guys like the new changes of the blog, which I painstakingly spent hours doing this up. Please leave your blog links on the tagboard so that I can link you up! I've also added an alumni section in the profile page so hello graduated seniors! Leave your name in the tagboard as well. If there are any problems regarding the blog, like spelling errors, please state it at the tagboard.

Our next big project - the junior band concert! We are collaborating with Regent, Hougang, Peirce and Hai Sing Catholic bands. SWO's babies, please practice really hard because we only have 17 practices left before your big day. Start promoting the concert to your friends, classmates, families, teachers, relatives... We really need to sell all 120+ tickets. Its only $6 and not as tedious as Soundscape anyway! And well, since almost all of you are so tech-savvy, Facebook is a great advertising platform so start spamming the walls and convince the heck out of your friends!

And to everyone else, you still have your Etude Challenge and scales test coming up soon. So work hard!

Yes, we did get a GWH but! see, our percentage isn't good. Its just nice 85% and a GWH. You know what I mean.. There are still lots of room for improvement! Don't be too arrogant about our achievement, its NBC, very different from SYF. Moreover, the judges are pretty lenient. You guys know what can be better and stuff. So lets work even harder for SYF'11 yea! and Seniors please help your sec1s with the pieces they are going to perform for their own CONCERT!

Apparently POP march-pass and the BBQ is cancelled. It will be postponed to a later date.

yes, this includes your attitude and playing !!
I sincerly hope that this improvement will continue and not
stop halfway.

REMEMBER ; ALTHOUGH WE HAVE NOT MUCH TIME LEFT,

As you guys have heard, we are having a break.

But please remember that you are expected to

report to the bandroom on Tuesday, 16 December

to collect your respective scores from the librarians.

Please bring home your instruments to practice,

or at least make the effort to come for sectionals

which will be at your own timing. Do let the leaders

know if any one of you are coming for sectionals

so we can come to open up the bandroom.

Also, collect your bandtee from your Assis QM,

Aidil, and let him know if you are taking the tees

for any of your friends who are overseas .

If you have any enquiries, you can leave me a

message but I cannot promise that I'll get back

to you A.S.AP as the sec threes will be away for

camp from 15-17 December .

Band practice will resume on Friday, 26 December.

Those of you going for Zhenghua Concert, please

remember its on Saturday, 27 December.

Your tickets are with me, so if you are not present

for band on 26 December, you tickets will be given

away. Let me know if any of you cannot make it .

you should be receiving your band tee soon

because there were problems and errors with

the design, and hopefully it's been resolved.

Now that it's the holidays and christmas is

approaching soon, (not hinting my bdae is coming)

why not we think of someways to celebrate our

holidays ? whether or not we're celebrating New Year,

festive holidays or just, Bonding sessions !

so tag what you want as a form of celebration,

Bbq, chalet or just spending time together at the zoo.

(you can meet your other bandmates there, like Mindy)

so keep those suggestions coming !

Huda here, reporting for duty.

yesterday marks the day of the last practice as we’re breaking for exams.

as you were not allowed to bring home your instruments due to stock check,

i hope you will make the effort to come for sectionals which will be on your own

timing, so you will be responsible for your own sectionals.

HOWEVER ,

all of you are required to come on Monday at 3pm .

brasses - washing up on instruments

woodwinds - tidying up the bandroom, library etc.

please dont be late :)

our combine concert has been brought forward due to acoustic reasons.

it will be held at VCH ( Victoria Concert Hall ) on 20th NOVEMBER.

some of our fellow schoolmates ( sec ones ) will be coming to support us.

PLEASE PAY $10 FOR YOUR BAND TEE ( part one ) TO CHANGMINDY .
